G N R are back... We'll see in April.
This was the first time I photographed them West Hollywood 1987. I'd avoided doing them as their manager Alan Niven was a New Zealand hustler who imported records. All Alan cared about was Great White his other quite dreadful band. So I shot them in West Hollywood, they turned up with thirty people friends hangers on... I'm thinking fuck me this is worse than the fucking Grateful Dead. Smoking smelly dirty druggy. Every thing I HATED. In fact they were shy and quite polite, all of them, apart from the entourage who seemed to think they'd joined the Rolling Stones. The idea was a gang under a street light looking cool with slight menace. The singer was quiet and open to ideas I liked them all. Funny this has become one of my most well known photos.
