Jethro Tull’s Deluxe Box set of Heavy Horses is out. I got it really for the LIVE concert as this was when I gave up on Tull. I loved them growing up but by 1978 they were out of touch and were still doing the parody spoofs on stage and the in jokes were unfunny. I shot these photos on the Heavy Horses Tour at the Hammersmith Odeon for Chrysalis, a paid job. I was excited to be photographing a band I loved. To be honest they were just ok, if anything boring and dated I wanted Aqualung-This Was-Thick As A Brick I even liked Passion Play this was so far off it was dull in places. No photo pit at this point the venue had covered it and I had to shoot from the crowd and it shows. The photos are flat the only two I like are of the light show and Martin Barre.
While digging out these negs I found AC/DC and the Blue Oyster Cult all mixed in together they all must have played the same week and I was trying to save film. The photos of AC/DC I’ve never even scanned before taken during the first song Riff Raff as I remember Bon Scott wearing the top for the first song. Looking at them now forty years on they are not as bad as I thought so heres a few from 1978.
