Iron Maiden Reading 1980
The World Cup and England have lost. I hate football I have no interest in it at all, yet as I was reading a book last night the TV was on and I ended up watching the last part of the game. I felt a bit sad for England mainly because the players tried and the team wasn’t full of ‘Superstars’ like say David Beckham who of course got sent off in 1998 and that was the end of England then. I mean it’s just a game one side will lose, get over it. At the Reading Festival years ago Iron Maiden were playing a big joyous show for them, Steve Harris the bassist was in a foul mood ‘ ‘Ammer’s lost it’s going to be a shit show’ and just because West Ham had lost that afternoon nothing could cheer Steve up his world had been turned upside down. I pointed out ‘It’s only a game’ Steve looked at me and said ‘There’s something wrong with you’.
I’ve just spent the weekend in Tel Aviv with Ozzy so I thought this morning the World Cup Anthem should be No More Tears a perfect song for football .
After being to Israel I got contacted by people wanting my views on the ongoing politics . Look Ozzy just played there and it was one of the best shows, of the concerts I’d seen lately. Music is about bringing joy and that’s what the show did for a Sunday night in Tel Aviv.
When I landed I was waiting on the tarmac and saw some old Mig Fighters - I think Russian - an old graveyard I found it oddly fasinating like when you see old American planes left in Vietnam .
