Ian Hunter eighty today. He is one of my true musical heroes that I can actually call a friend. Johnny Depp made a comment I overheard along the lines of ‘He lives life’. Ian really is the perfect frontman songwriter and one of the most truthful and forthright people I have ever met. I first saw him at the Oval September 18th 1971- 48 years ago, and the strangest part is I remember it well. Mott The Hoople were the peoples band they treated fans as friends. Mick Jones of the Clash looked on them as role models. No ego’s and I can say that honestly from Overend Watts ( a lovely man ) to Mick Ralphs who is always funny. They were the underdogs who always delivered and Ian Hunter is truly one of the great songwriters of rock and roll. I look forward to seeing him on his millennium.
